Öncü Sixth In Magny Race Two

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing’s Can Öncü scored a top six finish despite being hit by another rider at half race distance, damaging his machine. He remains in fourth place in the championship standings. Yari Montella was tenth in Race Two.

Warm and sunny midday conditions saw the WorldSSP riders line up for a 12.15 Race Two start at Magny Cours, in a contest that went the full 19 scheduled laps.

Öncü finished lap one in fourth position, and would ride inside the top six until lap 10, when another rider hit him from behind and dislodged his seat unit. This incident forced Can into a difficult riding position for the rest of the race.

Despite this sudden problem Can worked his way back into a top six position with three laps to go, and earned more valuable championship points.

Yari was unable to make the same early progress as he did in Race One on Saturday, but went from 14th spot on the grid to tenth at the conclusion of a final Magny Cours WorldSSP race.

Öncü remains fourth in the championship standings, and the top Kawasaki rider, with an enhanced total of 135 points. Yari sits seventh in the championship table, with 92 points so far in his rookie season.

The next round, at Barcelona - Catalunya, will take place between 23-25 September.

Can Öncü, stated: “The race was difficult after the contact as I did not have the rear seat unit fixed to the bike anymore. We did not so bad a job, even without the seat unit in the correct position, so there are not too many more things to say. We will work more and improve a lot in the next week before we go to Barcelona. We will keep going at full gas and we are motivated to succeed.”

Yari Montella, stated: “My race was conditioned by my starting position. I got away well, but then found myself with a group of riders and I wasted time getting past them. Once I’d done that, the group ahead was already too far off. My bike worked really well, but we still need to work to be able to fight with the front runners. Thanks to the team for all their hard work here in France.”

WorldSSP rookie Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) was 12th in Race two and his fellow rookie Tom Booth-Amos (Prodina Racing Kawasaki)  17th. Adrian is eighth overall in the championship, with 79 points.

Ben Currie (Motozoo Racing by Puccetti Kawasaki) was 23rd on Sunday in France and his team-mate Jeffrey Buis 25th.
