The latest round of the WorldSSP Championship will get underway at a circuit that Can has not only ridden at in 2024, but one he has raced at during a recent British championship weekend. Can even won the Sprint Race on a local Gearlink Kawasaki and finished runner up in the feature British Supersport race.
Can is looking for similar kinds of results during the WorldSSP Donington event as he tries to turn around some misfortunes, outwith his control, which have already affected his overall 2024 campaign.
Can is currently 15th in the championship with 22 points. The pace of Can and his Ninja ZX-6R are not in doubt as he qualified second on the grid at the second round, in Barcelona - Catalunya and has been able to run at the front in several races.
As usual in WorldSSP there will be not one but two races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Superpole Qualifying for Race One grid positions takes place on Fridays this season, not the Saturdays of the past.
Can Öncü, stated: “Racing in England is always special, both for the track itself and the support of the British fans. I took part in a BSB Supersport race at the same track in May and won it, so I'll try to make the most of my track knowledge. At the last round in Misano we were unlucky and so need to make up for that this weekend. We hope for decent weather, but we're ready for anything.”
Swiss rider Marcel Brenner (Viamo Racing by MTM Kawasaki) will compete once again, as he sits in 29th position in the points table.
Danish competitor Simon Jespersen (Vince 64 Kawasaki) returns to action for the Italian-based team. Gabriele Giannini (Prodina Kawasaki) will also be out at Donington looking to add to the point that he scored Assen.
The first back-to-back race weekends of the season will see Autodrom Most host the sixth round of WorldSSP, between 19-22 July.
