Roan van de Moosdijk claims the European title for Kawasaki

Roan van de Moosdijk maintained his composure at the final round of the FIM European EMX250 Motocross Championship to claim the title for Kawasaki and the F&H Racing Team by six points.

Needing just a top-nine finish in the final moto of the series at Uddevalla in Sweden the Dutch teenager rode a safe outside line in the sweeping first turn to emerge top six but was then severely hindered on the exit from turn two when another rider fell in his path and he had to take evasive action. The incident pushed him out of the top ten but he had already recovered to ninth position by the end of the first complete lap. While his title rivals were enjoying a relatively clear track at the front Roan stayed calm to advance to sixth by the end of lap four and, avoiding any potentially dangerous contact with other riders, took the chequered flag sixth to secure the European title by six points. Having achieved his season goal Roan will now contest the final two MX2 GPs in Turkey and China as his first preparation for the step up to the FIM World Championship in 2020. The experience will also give the Dutch national federation, who have honoured the teenager by nominating him in their squad for the Motocross of Nations, an indication of his abilities against the fastest talent in the world before they make their final team selection for the world team contest on home soil at Assen on the weekend of September 28/29.

Roan van de Moosdijk: "It was a little stressful the last few days but I have had a good time the last couple of months and won a lot of races so I was confident going into this last round of the series. Of course I was a little nervous before the second race this morning, but I think that’s normal! My start was pretty good but in the second corner Haarup crashed and I had to stop and lost five or six places. Then I saw Rubini just one or two positions in front of me, so when he passed somebody I did the same. I controlled the race; I knew it was enough. In my mind I was thinking during the last few laps ‘just don’t crash, don’t make any mistake’ so I let one guy pass me back on the last lap to make sure nothing strange could happen to prevent me securing the title. I want to thank everyone around me - Kawasaki, my team, my sponsors, my family, my girlfriend. Now I will race the MX2 GPs in Turkey and China to prepare for next year as I didn’t race any overseas GPs yet. It will also be a good preparation if the Dutch federation finally select me for the MX of Nations; of course both overseas races are hard-pack and Assen is sand but I showed already what I can do in the sand.”
