EMX moto win for Tristan Charboneau in Russia

Tristan Charboneau scored the first win of the year for Bud Racing Monster Energy Kawasaki in the Russian round of the FIM European EMX250 Motocross Championship at Orlyonok overlooking the Black Sea.

The US teenager, who had failed to start the opening moto on Saturday, took the lead in the second moto on Sunday morning on the second lap and led throughout the remainder of the race to win by nearly five seconds. He is now eighteenth in the series standings.

Teammate Marshal Weltin had been the star of the opening moto as he moved forward from an initial seventh to secure his eventual third place before half distance in the thirty-minute race. A seventeenth-placed finish in race two after starting at the back of the pack gave him ninth overall, three behind Charboneau, and he has now moved to twelfth in the series standings.

Morgan Lesiardo of the Monster Energy Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team retained his lead in the championship standings after hard-fought fifth and fourteenth place finishes. The Italian talent had raced a strong third in the opening moto, building a twenty second gap to his chasers, before a riding error on the final lap of the race cost him two positions. Forced to pit for new gloves and goggles early in race two he pushed until the chequered flag to secure a fourteenth placed finish, sufficient to maintain his lead in the series points standings.

Morgan Lesiardo: “I’m disappointed with the results this weekend, and I’m now waiting the next races which suits better to my style. The first race was not too bad, I just made a mistake after the start and later two riders crashed in front of me during the race, but I got a fifth. Sunday was more tough with the mud, I had to take off my goggles and then the race was very difficult for me. I’m unhappy with a fourteenth position, the positive point is that I’m still leading the championship but I expect podiums in the coming rounds.”
